A stylish man needs a great wardrobe!
With that, he can dress for any occasion effortlessly. But that could get quite expensive really quickly. But fortunately, it doesn’t have to be like that!
So in this blog post, I’ll show you 15 ways to level up your style without spending a lot of money.
Some of them are even free!
So if that sounds interesting, keep on reading.
#1 – Use the Power of Accessories
One of the best ways to upgrade your look is by using accessories. But why should you?
Well, most men don’t wear them! They think it’s a bit too feminine or useless. But that’s where they are wrong! Accessories are the finishing touches to any outfit. They make a bland outfit more exciting and add an extra layer.
Plus, you don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on new watches, bracelets or rings. If you’re on a budget, a $50 timepiece will do nicely.
#2 – Sell Your Old Clothes
You probably have some clothes in your closet that you don’t wear at all. Instead of keeping them there and letting them collect dust, the best thing to do is get rid of them.
Go to Facebook Marketplace or eBay and sell them. You probably won’t get a lot of money, but this could be used to buy new clothes.
P.S If you want to do good to the world, you can also give them away!
#3 – Wear Neutral Colors
So you’ve got the money from your old clothes! But what clothes should you buy? Well, I highly recommend you to go with clothes that have neutral colours.
Why? Because these colours are fantastic for matching. Basically, any neutral colour works together with another one!
#4 – Buy Clothes During Off-Season
Here’s a tip for saving money when shopping! Instead of buying summer clothes during the season, buy them when it’s winter.
Why? Because they are usually on sale at that time. Clothing stores want to get rid of them quickly to only sell clothes that are in season. So take advantage of it.
#5 – Wear a Rarely Used Item
Do you want to know the best way to elevate your style without spending too much money? Well, start wearing something that most people don’t. This will help you to not only distinct yourself and create your style but also will save you a lot of money.
So what type of items should you buy? That depends on what message you want to send to others, but here are my two recommendations. For anyone wishing to look dapper, the best thing is to buy a vest. You could also invest in some biker shoes if you want to look like a bad boy.
#6 – Experiment with Your Style
The previous tips all required you to spend money, but this one is free. When I mean experimenting with your style, I recommend you to wear your existing clothing in new ways.
Maybe you could try out a white dress shirt with a tie and a leather jacket? Or maybe combine a sports jacket with a plain white T-shirt? You could also test out different ways to fold your pocket squares. Or maybe try to tuck your shirts in another way?
Just test it out! You never know when you find something that works well.
#7 – Dressing for the Occasion
Another way to elevate your style is to dress for the occasion. It shows that you have no taste or you’re trying too hard. So if you’ve been invited to a black-tie event, make sure you get your tuxedo out or rent one.
But what if you don’t know the occasion? Well, then the best thing to do is ask the event planner. Don’t worry, as it won’t annoy them. Instead, it shows that you’re taking the event seriously.
Also, you won’t get that embarrassing moment when you realize that everybody is dressed differently from you.
#8 – Take Care of Yourself
What do I mean by this tip? Well, I suggest that you take care of your body. But this doesn’t mean just washing your body every day, doing a skincare routine, and styling your hair. There are so many other things that stylish people do.
These include small things like cutting their nails, plucking their eyebrows, and shaving or trimming their beard and moustache. While they might seem minuscule and unnecessary, they really aren’t. Women are very good at seeing the small details, which takes us to the next tip.
#9 – Wear Good Shoes
Women notice your shoes. If you want to be considered a stylish man by them, they need to compliment your outfit.
And fortunately, you don’t need to have more than ten pairs of shoes in your closet. Instead, all you need is three pairs: one pair of dress shoes, one pair of sneakers, and a pair of boots.
However, you need to take care of them as well. Nobody will think you look good if you wear dirty sneakers, even though they compliment your outfit.
#10 – Wear Sneakers Less Often
We get it! Sneakers are comfortable and look fantastic. But the problem is that most men wear them exclusively. But if you genuinely want to be fashionable, you should mix it up a bit.
For example, you could try Chelsea boots. These boots are very versatile and can be used for many occasions. You could wear them with a suit when it’s cold outside but also style them casually for meetups with your friends. The same could be done with dress shoes.
#11 – Take Care of Your Clothes
Additionally to taking care of yourself and your shoes, you should maintain your clothes as well. If you want to save up some money and wear your favourite clothes for an extended period, you need to learn to take proper care of them.
So start by looking at the washing label and follow its instructions. This way, you’ll make sure your clothes keep the colours for longer and won’t shrink too fast.
#12 – Get Your Clothes Tailored
Speaking of clothes, you probably know the phrase “Fit is king.” Well, then why not get your clothes tailored? Fortunately, it’s not too expensive. All you have to do is get a good tailor, and soon you’ll have clothes that fit you like a glove.
Also, your tailor tailors more than suits! For example, you could get your jeans and jackets tailored to your body!
#13 – Stand Up Straight
With many people working at the office and staring at screens, a slouched back is inevitable. But that’s not considered stylish! So you want to train yourself against that. When you do, your clothes will look way better on you. But how do you get a straight back?
Well, there are many exercises you could try out. Here is a video great video for it. Additionally to them, I highly recommend you to start going on walks. Just put on your favourite podcast or song, and try to keep your back straight while walking.
And soon, all of it will feel natural, and you’ll have a straight back!
#14 – Change Up Your Hair
Do you know why some men always look stylish? Well, it’s because they change up their hairstyle from time to time. Just take David Beckham, for example! He has tested out many different hairstyles and has looked good doing it.
So start doing that to yourself as well! You don’t need to have a brand new hairstyle every year, but change it every 5 years. You’ll never know what works for you until you’ve tried it!
#15 – Smile more often
It’s no secret that men who are optimistic and smile are considered more attractive. So why not start doing it yourself? Not only will you become more handsome, but you’ll perceive the world more positively.
So how do you do it? While I might not be a psychiatrist, I have a few suggestions to help you out with it. First, make sure that your inner circle is positive. If all that your friends do is discourage you, then you want to get rid of them. Also, practice gratitude. Try to write down the positives of each day!
And that’s it! Now you know the 15 ways to elevate your style without spending a lot of money. Were there any tips I should have included in this list? Comment them down below! This way we’ll help all of us to become more attractive and stylish men.
